Difference between Raw and Ripe Puerh Tea
There are two types of Puer tea, raw and ripe, and the fundamental difference is the difference between fermented and unfermented. This also makes the two types of tea different in efficacy and applicability to different groups of people, and different age groups also have different needs for Pu-erh tea.
Raw Puer is made through natural fermentation and is more irritating. It is generally not suitable for the elderly or young children with weak stomachs. It needs to be stored for 5-8 years after natural fermentation before it becomes mild and suitable for drinking.
Puer tea that has been artificially fermented becomes ripe Pu-erh tea, which is suitable for most people and tastes much better than raw Pu-erh because it has been fermented during the production process. It has a sweet aftertaste, a mellow flavor, and a special aged aroma, which is not found in raw Puerh tea. The color of the tea broth changes from golden to reddish-brown due to fermentation, like a fine red wine. The stimulation to the stomach and intestines is also reduced and becomes mild, and even the moderate concentration of ripe Puerh tea also plays a certain protective effect on the stomach and intestines.
Puerh raw tea is strong and stimulating. If it is high-temperature, the tea broth is fragrant, the water is sweet and thin, and slightly astringent.
Puerh ripe tea is thick and sweet water, hardly bitter and astringent, and resistant to brewing.
